How do you make a product 5x better than the one before it?

Well, you make the old product you're comparing it to really bad, that's how!

Seriously, Intel saying their next processor will get better performance per watt than Prescott is like Hummer saying their next vehicle will be a compact that gets better miles per gallon than the H2. They wouldn't deserve an award, as it would hardly an accomplishment by any standards.

They (Intel) put it in to terms they can easily manipulate to spin the product into such a light the average moron thinks they just invented the thing that was "better then sliced bread"....

It is all marketing wording and when it arrives you will see performance will fall far short of what most think they are saying....It can be true to what they stated in very specific terms through their obscure wording, and thus they did not lie.../ They just helped toi point you into a false reality....

Anybody remember the things said aboiut the prescott...need I say more???

It's always marketing crap. Most people just don't have the time or knowledge to sift through it. However, in all fairness those people will never appreciate the difference between CPUs anyway. They see "computer" as most people see "can-opener". It sits there and does what they want. No need to ask how.

Notice that the market speak is "5x faster per watt" and not "5x faster" than a Prescott (or whatever it was they were comparing it too, too lazy to check). Lots of wiggle room in how they stated it. Their CPU's could actually be less powerful than the current top of the line P4's initially and they could still be true to their claims.

I'm excited about the mobile CPU's from Intel though. It might be time to upgrade from that old crusty (but darned durable and trusty) P3 Thinkpad.
