How can I make my network so that it asks for account and password everytime trying to use the share files or access to a networked comp? (let say we're on a 2 comps network using a hub or switch)
if you are running winxp pro (maybe home too, but i know nothing about home) you need to go to control panel->folder options->view, then uncheck "use simple file sharing" (its at the very bottom of the list)
and if you need to make extra accounts for filesharing access you can right click "my computer" and choose "manage". then look under "users and groups", you can make more there
I tried to uncheck the simple file sharing, but that didnt work, it didn't ask for account or password when I tried to go to my second comp on the network.
Uncheck simple file sharing on all machines involved, then RESTART. Make sure your partitions are NTFS as well and not FAT or FAT32, then you can assign NTFS permissions as well as folder permissions.
i know those permissions thing, but they have nothing to do with the account and password when trying to access a shared folder or another machine, it's like how you access another comp or shared folder from a client.
I did not read the orogonal post slowly, and suggested to switch to Simple File Sharing which is the opposite solution.
In addition to the advice giving to you by ktwebb, if you prefer not the change WinXP settings and format you can Download this shareware and give it a try.
why i have to do on all machines? the uncheck simple file sharin gthing
One of my friend did for me before , and he didnt have to do it on all the comps, but whoever trying to access my comp or the shared folder on my comp, it asked for account and password.
