How do you look for dead pixels?

Wondering how does it look like? you have to really come close to the monitor to tell? any kind of color? Thanks.

That doesn't always work. My Inspiron 8200 has one dead pixels that only shows up on black or blue backgrounds. Any other color and you can't see it. Try a multitude of colors and see if there are any spots not lighting up properly.

thanks just ran it and couldn't find it... or at least I think I didn't find any.... is it really really small? like compare a sugar dot? or smaller?

well they're the size of one pixel. Look really close at your screen and you should see a black grid. Each dot is a pixel... About the size of a sugar dot I guess.

They can be as small as a third of a pixel. A pixel is made up of a red, green, and blue component. If any one of the three is damaged, you'll end up w/ a pixel that doesn't look quite right. If you want to know how big they are, take the width of your screen (let's say 10" for example) and divide by the horizontal resolution (lets say 1024 pixels). You get 102 pixels per inch. that means each pixel is about 1/100" square, and each sub-component of that pixel is 1/3 that size.

If you have a magnifying glass, it'll help a lot. And as was said above, you should check against a solid background in white, black, red, green, and blue. Good luck and cross your fingers. I have a number of stuck pixels on my 2000FP but not enough for Dell to want to take it back. :|
