How do you load epub and personal pdfs onto iPhone?

You might also check out Files Lite (I think it's by Olive Branch... Olive Toast.... something like that) as a way to transport files from your computer to the iPhone. You can (if I recall correctly) transfer files over a wifi network, which is a cool feature. And it's free.

I'm not sure how Stanza is about reading "personal" .epub books -- although as TheStu says, you might as well try -- since it's an absolutely fantastic (and free!) reader.

iBooks will take all of that.

According to the App Store, iBooks requires iOS 4.0+ to run (except for the special version on the iPad right now), and will not work on first gen iPhones/iPod Touches.

Guys I have stanza already but looked through and and I'm not sure at all where there is an option to load local files. As for dropbox does it have a pdf application built in. It's not just a question of opening the pdf but having an app that is book friendly. Alternattively is there some kind of cydia app that will let me load ibooks?

For dropbox it will open the pdf, and give you the pinch zoom and a scroller sidebar. (iOS4 anyways)

I *believe* if you can get the .epub book to the iPhone (e.g. dropbox, files lite) and then click to open, it will automatically open in Stanza.

And I could be wrong about this, but didn't the iPhone already read PDF's natively -- not very well as I recall, because you were always having to scroll around -- but I thought it did it. (e.g., the phone should start mobile safari or whatever it uses to view .PDFs when you click on the .PDF in Dropbox.) What happens if you click on a link to a random PDF from the web?

Get Stanza Desktop, load the file there, launch Stanza on the iPhone and you should be able to see the file. You can then transfer the file to the iPhone.

Ok will try later. I went to Stanza's page and their dl link for mac is down. So unless someone knows a reputable source w. the current version all I can do is wait..
Thanks though.
