I voted 3. But it's somewhere in between 3 and 4.

Pay is good. Hours are good. I'm learning relevant stuff to my career. I guess I cant complain. I think it's the fact that I just don't like working.

In a perfect world, I'd rather be a park ranger or something that paid magical dollars. I don't think I'd ever be happy doing office jobs.

I'm somewhere between 4 and 3. I voted 3 because I remain neutral in all polls. Suck it, OP!

Between 5 and 3 so I picked 4, because I'd rather be at the beach than doing any work of any kind, but I also enjoy what I do and my company owns, I have a good salary, great benefits, and great work life balance.

I mean, really: if you wouldn't rather be at the beach (or mountains, or outside wherever, or whatever fun diversion) than at work, then you are a sick person. Has nothing to do with how much you might love your job.

I went from a 2 to a 4 a few years ago in a new position at the same company. I moved from estimating to project management in the HVAC field. So I get to see lots of cool stuff in places most people are not allowed to enter, my vehicle and fuel is paid for, my hours are pretty much whatever I make them and I am in a position to direct where I go from here.

All that being said I would rather be at the beach but who wouldn't so I ignored that part of the poll.

Yeah I'm not really sure why you put that at the end of the 3rd option.

I voted a 3. I don't really care for what I do but I like my co-workers a lot, especially the two developers I work with most. That's what keeps me there the most, although a lot of it is that I'm comfortable and don't like changing things. But I'm thinkin this year it's time for me to move on.

Sometimes this shit really tries my patience, like today for instance, but I could do worse. I'll go with 4. Not like I'm going to work and having fun usually, but it entails less misery than most of the alternatives.

I spent 6 hours today hauling up 2 roof-top heaters for an apartment building. It was actually kind a cool. I had my brother, my boss, my co-worker and the guy who's job it was. It was a bit of a struggle... it was basically hauling up 2 pianos up a huge flight of stairs after we got out of the elevator with one. The first one was a struggle..but the next one went a lot easier after we figured out what the fuck we were doing. We all went for beers after that.

Amen

But what if your job is a beach parasailing instructor?

I'm between a 3 and 4 but I voted for 4. There have been times when I hated my job, mostly due to one or two co-workers, and thought about leaving for a better and higher-paying one which I could likely easily get. I stuck around because I work with some wonderful and brilliant people, and I feel like it's almost a second "home." My group is awesome as hell and probably the only one in the company with zero turnover, and my boss is usually hands-off as he gets absorbed in his own work. You don't get that often, and I'd rather not risk it. My salary is great and could certainly be better, but at this point I'd rather have more time off than more money.

I'm not passionate about the work, though, but that doesn't bother me as it's still interesting and fun - it almost never feels like work. I'm able to put nearly everything completely out of my mind the minute I step out of the building.

If I won a billion dollars tomorrow, I would probably stay at work for a while, or negotiate only having to work two to three days a week.

I put a 3. It's not the most exciting job but I don't hate it either. I like the hours because I get more time off as it's shift work It also pays well, there arn't a lot of good paying jobs here and screw living down south in the hustle and bustle of city life.

I'm hoping I get to keep this job till retirement.

I'm also hoping I MAKE it to retirement. One of my coworkers was a 20 year veteran and passed away recently. So many people don't even make it to retirement, or retire and then pass away a year later. It sucks that the system forces us to work most if all of our life.

I can be anywhere between a 2 and a 3 where I work. Right now is our busy season, so the overtime is insane and work is kinda miserable. It should get better soon, though... and the bonus check will help :)

It's a mix of "I can't believe people pay me to do this" and "I can't believe I stay here and do this." When the former dominates, life is good.
