Look when I went to college and grad school a lot of people I knew were taking ritalin.

I am wondering how they knew they got ADHD. No that I think about i probably should of asked them.

I hear that there is no physical test to determine whether you have adhd. so is there only a psych?

I mean at time i also feel i cant concentrate. But isnt that normal??

what are your thoughts? and for those who have adhd i dont mean any disrespect? I am just trying to figure out how you knew you had it.

they go to the doctor because they think their lack of interest in a class is a result of ADD

however with ADHD I think they are just attention whores

I do not believe in ADHD or ADD. I think everyone at some point in their life has ADD or ADHD.

The doctors will prescribe the medications very very very easily.

& I took straterra for ADD. I wanted to pay attention in class.... sure it worked...or so I made myself believe so..

There is no physical diagnosis for ADHD, only a psychological one. A lot of people think that ADD and ADHD are BS disorders made up by doctors and parents to excuse their child's idiocy and irresponsibility. My mom, who has been working in Special Education for many years now says that's simply not true, and that there really are true cases of ADD/ADHD. I had a psych evaluation once and they say I have ADHD, but I don't feel abnormal or hyperactive at all.

I never saw a doctor and I knew I had ADHD. It's really easy to tell when you're in college. I got distracted so easily when I'm trying to study or read a book, even when I'm in the library. My mind just goes off and I start daydreaming about random crap. Either that, I doze off.

i have also read a few articles that college students are abusing the drug as a means to do better in school. Well I cant imagine that any drug could make you smarter so maybe it makes you study harder????

Read up on it and see if you fit the symptoms. I'm not talking about "I don't feel like doing my homework". Jesus, who the ****** does? I mean you match a lot of the symptoms and it's not just laziness or lack of interest, then maybe go see a doctor and see what he thinks.

It makes you concentrate.

When I went off the drugs, I was throwing fists at people. My medication was suddenly cut because my insurance ran out. I was going crazy.

I havent been on the medication for 2 years and I am doing better in school than I was back then.

It gives you more focus and energy and you can stay up much later studying or working on homework.

Thanks for sharing everyone. I often wondered about whether I had ADHD but I also wondered whether those who took it also had it. The comments I have read are pretty decent and I will look into it further.

Adderall
Stratta
Ritilan
Dexedrine

Those are the most popular, I think that Adderall and Dexedrine are the same thing though.

My grades literally from D,D,C,D to A,A-,B,A from not taking ritalin to taking ritalin. It's not psycho-sematic or the placebo effect - the (nearly) straight Ds semester was under the supervision of a shrink as well, he put me on Stratera, a drug that did nothing. Then my grades skyrocketed. To be clear, I had 6 semesters in a row of Cs and Ds and now get As and Bs.

I was diagnosed as Hyperactive" way back in the 60's, and they tried a variety of different drugs on me, but I didn't like taking them, and usually refused to do so. I think I ended up OK, with no ill effects from it..."OOOH! look, something shiny!..... ;)

What I meant is I knew I had ADHD before I saw my doctor.

It was really hard for me to pay attention to anything. I can't read anything, even if it's interesting to me, I would just think of something else. I almost dropped out of college until I started taking some pills.
