The test you must conduct to know once and for all is the "whip it out" test

If she goes to town, then you're not on the friend's ladder

If she reacts in any other way, you're just a friend.

If she whips hers out.. then this relationship is a lot more complicated and can't be explained well with ladder theory

But more seriously, talking to you about her sex life can be a very bad thing. It's probable that she's using you as a big sister.

It actually makes provisions for guys that *sometimes* jump from one ladder to another. But do you honestly think that every women out there is willing to sleep with you? That's basically all the ladder theory is disputing; some women will never sleep with you no matter what you do. It has little to do with timidness or making your intentions clear. On the contrary, the ladder theory encourages you to tell a woman that you can't be friends (if that's how you feel) and that the relationship should end there if she isn't willing to start dating.
