How do you know which radeon 9500 nps will mod?

I know that it used to be the red ones with the L shaped memory (i know not all but some did), but i found a place that has the sapphire 9500 np that is black and has the L-shaped memory. Will these work at all or is there any chance they will mod?

If you haven't already done so, you should email them to make sure the one they'll send you does have the L memory. Many times the display picture is different from the card you actually recieve. And supposedly the 9600xt is going to be faster than the 9700 pro, but I have serious doubts that it will be.

The 9600XT will be faster than the 9700Pro if it comes with eight pipelines and 256 bit memory and clocks higher.

i.e. Two chances - slim and fat.

Red PCB, 128mb L shaped ram config. Best results with sapphire cards (unlocked bios too). Good luck finding one though... they have been out of stock for a long time, as well as out of production 🙁

I bought one used in the FS/T forum here that was tested to softmod successfully. There are some at Hardforum right now too. Saved me a lot of hassle and I'm very happy with the card. I run it at 357/312. I've seen them go for $120. - $160.

Even that doesn't always worked. 2 weeks ago, I was looking for a new card, and I ordered a 9500 nonpro from a site which had L shaped memory. I called them up and that was confirmed. I inserted a "verify L shaped memory or do not charge card" line in comments. Still, I got an I shaped card. And it doesn't work properly either.

I'm in the process of RMAing, hopefully. Emailed them on Friday, lets see if they respond tomorrow.

Retailer is xtremegear. It had a decent resellerrating, so I went with it. They have since changed the image on this item, but it was L shaped when I ordered.

Hopefully, I can get them to send me a 9700 Pro instead.

Xtremegear...figures. A while back they were spamming the forums and I believe it was found that they have fake reseller ratings. Their real reseller ratings were around 4, if I recall correctly.
