How do you know when your CDRW is dead?

I think my Plextor CDRW might be dead. The software says it can't find any CDRW but Windows device manager can find it just fine. WTF?

i have an old yamaha scsi one that only burns at half its rated speed. i think it is dyeing...

are you using clonecd or cdrwin? i think it might be something to do with aspi. you might want to reboot also....
