I woke up this morning to turn my computer on, and as Windows was booting up my main HD (with the OS on it) started making this clicking noise, and Windows never went any further into booting up.

I turned it off, let it sit for a minute wondering what the to do. Turned it on again, and this time the HD wasn't even recognized in my BIOS and the same clicking noise could be heard.

I turned it off once again, unplugged the power going into the HD and replugged it in. And well, now everything is fine as it usually is, as I am typing this e-mail.

It's a 60 gig IBM Deskstar that I got summer of 2001. I'm kind of wierded out but the noises, is that a sign something is going wrong?

thanks

Search for the name "IBM Deathstar" and you'll find your answer I'm sure. :)

Immediately though, you ought to be backing up everything you can in any way you can.

Yep, looks like it's dying.
