How do you know if you're running in dual channel or not?

I just bought a second, identical 1GB stick of ram, and I'm wondering if it's running in dual channel. How can I tell if it is or isn't, or what else do I need to do?

When I turn my computer on, it says it on that first bios screen when you boot up. It says something like "512MB 400mhz Single Channel".
If it flashes by too quick, hit the pause key on your keyboard and it will pause the screen so you can read it. Then hit enter to resume.

You can also use a third party app like CPU-Z to tell you ( download here). In the 4th tab "Memory" it says Channels #, and it will either say single or dual.

Your processor also has to support dual channel. If you have a s754 Athlon 64 or Sempron, then you won't be able to do dual-channel.

In most cases for dual channel, it needs to be in slots 1 & 3, or 2 & 4. There are some exceptions, but thats the norm. Your motherboard manual should tell you which slots to use for dual channel..

Hello.

If it's not much trouble I would really apreciate if someone could tell me if a

Pentium 4 3.2GB HT supported 800mhz FSB 2MB L2 cache Processor 640
Intel D915PGN mainboard
2 512 MB Pc3200 Kingston RAM Pin DIMM

1. Can I use dual channel?
2. How do I "organize" the RAM in the mainboard? I have read 1-3 2-4 slots, and 1-2, Need a solid answer.

Sorry for all the trouble, but I cannot find it anywhere else.

The 915 chipset supports dual channel, so you just gotta put it in the correct slots. Every Intel based board I have seen has slots 1 &3 and/or 2 & 4 for dual channel.

Use slot's 1&3 and you will get Dual Channel.

Usually there's a little booklet comming with your motherboard, it's called "a manual" and usually it contains such info among other things.
