how do you know if your memory is bad?

any ideas?

for example, i have this pair of ram that makes my system crash, but only sometimes. when i use my other memory, it rarely crashes. can it be coincidence? are they programs i can run to check stability of memory? or are there hardware i can use.

Generally when you forget things like how to breathe, how to urinate, where the spacebar is, etc.. Memtest86 usually tells you where exactly in your memory the problem is. A lot of the time it's just brainfarting i.e. misfires. Sometimes if you jack the juice up a bit, it helps with the forgetfullness.
