How do you know if you need stitches?

Nocturnal

I bent down to install my new video card and part of my desk scratched my head. I'm bleeding but not profusely. Do you think I need stitches? Or is it just possibly a skin wound... like a scratch? It doesn't hurt.

Some ppl are stitch fanatics. . .

You can always squeeze a stictch in.

My criteria is if it is a cut that is hanging open that you can see the meat - deep.

Other than that I clean my cuts, and put a butterfly bandaid on. .

I really don't care about a scar it's on my head lol. I really don't think it's deep. It isn't bleeding profusely. Like I'm certain it stopped bleeding.

then ur golden... it will scab up and u will heal.

I think you need to apply a tourniquet. It is best if you apply it around your neck to make sure you have stopped the bleeding. It is also best if you cinche that sucker really tight.

I was waiting for that😀

Ask youself: Do you REALLY want a $200 bill for a couple worthless stitches on a totally minor wound?
Get a band-aid or make your own butterfly bandage if the wound is too big.

I went to emerg. after getting in a FIGHT (intarweb fight talk WOO WOO look at me i'm TOUGH woo woo!) and all I did was fall asleep with my wife in the waiting room. I left with the butterfly bandages and never got teh stitches 🙁

Now my eyebrow has a scar above it. 🙁 stupid punchy person.

If you're a sissy boy who thinks a small cut is going to kill you then you'd know if you'd need stitches.
Seriously though, if it's a cut deep enough that it looks like it's obviously not going to heal by itself before you bleed to death, get stitches. Otherwise rinse it with salt water, clean it with alcohol and strap a piece of cloth real tight and wait a few days until it stops bleeding. That's how I dealt with a real nasty cut on my thumb awhile ago while working inside a computer case. It's perfectly fine now. (I was pushing out the drive bay covers and when it gave in, I pushed my thumb real good into the sharp edges of a cheap case with all of my body weight.)

If a tourniquet
Is not handy, just use your
Shuffle's headphone wires.

If it is a gaping wound longer than an inch then maybe get stiches.

But realize that even a small nick on the head will bleed like a SOB, lots of blood there.

Other wise tape will hold it together, duct tape.

teeheee, just kidding - nah there's topical tape/sutures/glue that will close the wound.

scalp wounds bleed like a bitch.

my general rule of thumb, is if I can't stop the bleeding or can see bones then I go get stiches.

Stitches? That's for sissies. Cut a 4" open in the palm of my hand a few years back, got fat coming out of the gap. Pretty nasty looking. No stitches, the scar's not very visible. Took some over the counter meds, fortunately no infection nor nerve damages.

heh, little do you know you may have circulation problems in your hand.

Had a big cut on my head from my surfboard in costa rica. In the US i would have gotten stitches ASAP, but in the region i was in, butterfly tape sufficed.
