WinPoEt and PPPoE are the same thing. WinPoEt is abbrevieated for Windows PPP over Ethernet.

If you have a broadband internet connection, and you still have to "dial up", then you use PPPoE to connect to the internet. Otherwise, you're not.

well I have 512K DSL and its through Sprint.

My modem is plugged into the ethernet port on the back of my computer but I don't think I have to dial.I mean it doesn't make all the beeps and stuff.

It is hard to say, most DSL connections use PPPOE while some Verizon customer s I know get to use DHCP, I don't know anything about Sprint. Ussually if you are using PPPOE there is a little dialer program it won't actually dial at all like 56K does it will just sit there and say connecting then connect. I usea router to take care of my PPPOE so I don't have to deal with it.

I am sure someone here will be able to help you figure out your connection. Just go to the fourm's and look to the TELCo section and find the sprint forum. Someone in there will know if your area uses PPPoE or DHCP.

PPPoE and DHCP are different things. PPPoE connections still use DHCP to assign addresses. They just require authentication to get onto the network.

I meant that u didn't need to use PPPoE in some areas of Verizon territory. depending on what modem u get from them Westell wirespeed 2100's require PPPoe while the 2200's don't.

Judging from your responses, your connection seems to be fine. Are you having problems with your connection or are you just asking...?
