it can still determine whether or not a network cable is plugged into it or not?

Here is my situation to give further detail. I have an Intel Pro/100+Wake on LAN and for some odd reason, I cant use it to access the LAN we have here. I've even tried plugging this PC into the cable modem, to no avail.

I've tried swapping out the RJ45 but no luck. My only indication that it MIGHT be working is that it still detects whether or not there is an RJ45 in it or not.

I have yet to try another NIC in its place, but when my neighbor gets home, i'll be sure to ask him for his.

btw...on another note...is it possible to have a port go out in a router? My BEFSR41 i got about 3 months ago just had a port die on me.

Isn't that thing still under warranty? I'd suggest you get an RMA on that one.

As far as your other question regarding whether or not your NIC works, are there indicator lights on it? Does it light up when you plug it into the LAN?

Does your office LAN require dynamic or static IPs? That may be the problem that I see. Make sure you have the correct settings for the LAN. Domain, IPs, protocols, DHCP, etc.

Hope this helps

Thanx for the reply. i found out it IS my NIC. I stuck in a friend's and it worked fine without any hitches.

and mysteriously, the 2nd port on my router works. go figure... ;)
