i just keep 'em away from the main partition....so the main boot up partition doesn't get scattered all over the place.....and keep each type of files into folders....

There's only one way how to sort MP3s:
Foldername: artistname-albumname
Filename: artistname-albumname-song#-nameofthesong

and if the song doesn't belong to a song, just have it lyin' around in the normal MP3 folder. Any other way is just WRONG. End of discussion.

Artist\Album\Artist - Album - Track # - Song Title

OK, you could also sort it by artist, but that's just at the border of being WRONG.

Q: How do you keep 50+ GB of stuff organized?

A: You don't.

Now with that past, I'll show my organization scheme like others are doing.

First, My Documents just has folders for my various projects (HTML, PHP, C++), school files, letters, pictures, 4-H stuff (with sub folders by project group and year), 3D models, and music. My music folder is sub-organized by stuff parents wouldn't mind (classical and jazz), and stuff they would kill me if they found out I liked (pretty much all of my rock, punk, and metal; that folder is hidden and secured via NTFS permissions). Both of those folders are organized into subfolders for artists, with the MP3s further sorted into folders by album only if I have a complete collection for that album.

Your parents would get mad if they knew you were listening to rock, punk and metal? Well they're actually cool for dis-liking this POS music, but that's not the point.

you can sort them first into softcore and hardcore.

then within those can be any number of ways; blonde/brunette. tall/short. celebrity/non-celeb. the possibilities are endless dude.

This is some of it. Most of that is already organized, though.

The unorganized music is the hardest part, and making sure all the videos are labelled correctly and complete.

Wow, where'd you find all those Futurama and Star Trek's? What's the resolution and filesize like?

I think you would find it easiest to sort if you gave us FTP access.

you mean these "folders" can make it so i don't have every file on my desktop? that sounds pretty cool, but i'm not sure how practical it is. . .

as far as mp3's go, they are sorted in folders, by artist name and album.

i don't have many movies.. but if i was you i would sort by show, by season.

I have a Movie drive sorted my Movies, music vids, family guy, simpsons, samurai jack, etc. and my mp3's are sorted using my nifty VB app that sorts songs into folders (0-9, a-z) by first letter of the file. Course this requires a regimented naming scheme (artist - song.mp3) It sorts from a root dir to a destination dir by file extension. I find it useful for keeping me lazy. :)linky Oh yea, VB6 app.. just a warning..

For music I do the following:
/Artist/Album/Track#-TrackName [this is for regular albums]
/Various Artists/Album/Track#-TrackName [this is for compilations/soundtracks]

This works quite well for my 22 gb / 3000+ songs I have on my machine.

appropriately named folders.. i like to keep the majority of the possibly jumbled crap in one folder, with subfolders.
if you stay organized from the beginning.. it's really easy :)

I try to put it all in folders according to what it is... for videos, there is a folder for each type, for mp's they pretty much just stay in the folder they were downloaded to, not really organized at all, but I will likely organize them sometime soon cause there are 1400 of them, not a lot, but enough to make a mess of the folder.

The point is that they're showing (like you) a case of ignorant musical elitism by saying that Pink Floyd et. al. are bad, vile, evil, etc. And what kind of music is the best, anyway? Surely the world would be better off if everybody liked the same things that you do?
