I am a complete noob at Linux. Recently, I installed Mint 17.3. I would like to change the themes so I downloaded several theme packs from the themes for mint website. I followed the tutorials and installed them into my /home/.themes. When I go on changing appearance however, they do not appear there! D: I also placed the folder into user/share/themes. That didnt work either. I log off, rebooted, still nothing. Please help!

When you say "installed" them, does that mean you downloaded them AND decompressed them to "~/.themes"?

I hadn't messed with Mint themes before, but did test it just now. I installed two themes and went into the theme settings/manager. One theme showed up as an installed theme and could be applied as a complete theme, the other was only available for Window Borders and Controls. Be sure to click on the boxes on the right to see if they appear there, and to apply a complete theme click the link at the bottom "Add/remove desktop themes..."
