i have 6600 gt. eevrytme i update drivers i get a new folder in C:\NVIDIA\Win2KXP. each one is like 20mb and seems like a waste of space. can i delete the old folders? or when i update should i remove from add/remove programs first?
u do that every time you update drivers? whats wrong with just using the new installer if you're using the same videocard, i mean nvidia had to have made this easy. oh and cool i can delete those folders, same with the nforce one?
Use Driver Cleaner every time. It gets rid of any possibility of conflicts and is known to also increase performance further than if you just run the installer.
I use the following steps:
- Right-click on My Computer > Hardware > Device Manager > Display Adapters. Uninstall the device.
- Reboot in Safe Mode (F8 when booting)
- Run Driver Cleaner
- Install new drivers
- Reboot in normal mode
I just install over. Each NVIDIA driver uses the same registry keys, I fail to see what's left over besides "C:\NVIDIA" (just delete btw). There's no point in removing the drivers yourself when the installer does it for you. I'd like to see benchmarks of performance increases (unless you had High Quality set on your old driver and your new one defaulted to Quality 😕 ). Not worth the 2 seconds to me. 😕 :Q
