How do you install back wheel bearings on volkswagen bug?

I took the back wheel bearings off of my 57 bug and i forgot how they went back on. Can somebody help me by telling me if they go in with the bearing balls facing out or with the plastic ring facing out. Thanks
 
i am not sure how the bugs go, but usually with nuts and stuff like that, the plastic ring is facing in and the metal is out.
