How do you install a new CPU

I wasn't expecting to have to do anything in software to upgrade my Athlon to a X2 other than upgrade the BIOS. But I was reading here about installing X2 driver and such.

I have the correct BIOS already. Is there anything else I should do before swapping out CPU's?

Nope. Just install the X2 driver as mentioned, and you should be all set. There have been a few scattered people that had to do an OS re-install, but if you have XP pro you should be fine.

I am pretty sure Windows Update will recognize the CPU and update the drivers for it. However if it does not you can always call AMD directally.

Great! Thanks all.

Err...., wait a sec, what driver do I need for XP? The ones at the above link are for linux, XP64 for 2003.
