How do you install a new bios chip in a motherboard? I have an Asus A8V Deluxe. The chip is this one.

Do you need any special tools?

Yes there is a special little tool. The chip has to be pulled straight-up and not pried out from one corner. You could possibly crack the socket. Radio Shack might have one.

That bios chip in the Dell info looks like one from the ol'386 days. I doubt yours looks at all like that. It most likely fits into a socket that has the contacts all around the inside perimiter.

I think I might have one; I bought a radio shack computer toolkit a while back. It sort of looks like half and half of the left and middle ones here.

Yes, mine is almost square and is sort of depressed, and surrounded by contacts.

That is an e-prom puller, but the asus picture shows the a different type of bios chip. However, the tool you have might work.

you will need a plcc extractor " The safe way"

or you can use Paper Clips "but be extra careful not to crack the plastic socket"
