I have 5:1 midilands...but i found it kind of akward to set them behind me on those little stands. The rig is on just a desk, it isnt L shaped or anything so i have a hard time setting the speakers to the back or side of me...and therfore, surround sound is harder to enjoy for me. How do you guys have your speakers set up?

I have a small bedroom with my computer against one wall (not a corner). On my desk are my two front speakers...both on top of the computer desk hutch. I then have a wire running under a cable hiding rug that goes on top of the dresser just slightly behind me and about 3 feet to the left. This has my left surround sound speaker. Then I have the other surround speaker behind me and 3 feet to the right. Its wire goes around corner and on my window sill. My subwoofer is right next to my feet under my desk.

Keep in mind, I'm a college student and my bedroom is very small. I don't use the speaker stands because I don't have any place to hide the wires. Its worth looking into getting them under the carpets. Audio Review has a good forum that will tell you how to get speakers set up. Hope this helps.

I have a bookshelf that is directly behind me when I'm sitting at my computer desk. My rear speakers would go on that (if I had rears).

Or you could hang them on the wall behind you.

satillites as far away from your monitor as possible, keeping them symetrical to the monitor. this will create a much larger virtual sound enviroment. place the sub in a corner or against a wall and try to keep it directly in front you. if you cant find anywhere to put your rear speakers just put them on the ground.

I have my computer on a large surface, on the front wall, about in the middle. I have two sets of Promedia's for a 8.2 setup. I have the first front pair on the wall in front of me, about two feet down from the ceiling, spaced about three feet apart. I have the second set of front sats, wall mounted about a foot and a half down from the ceiling in the front corners of the room. The first set of rears are wall mounted on the right and left walls behind me, at about the midpoint of the room. The last pair of rears are in the rear corners of the room behind me, also wall mounted. The two subs are in the front corners of the room with the port hole facing the corner. Sounds very nice...

Front speakers in the top left and right corners of the desk.
Rear speakers on the back wall shelving unit to the left and right ends.
Sub to the lower right of my desk.

The only problem is my rears are about 10 feet behind me while my fronts are only about 2 or 3 feet infront of me. So I have to balance/fade them properly to get an even sound level.

Klipsch Promedia v2 400s.

I have speakers in my room corners (4X Proson Twin-1000 powered by 2 AIWA XA-950, room is about 5X4m large). I like to FEEL the music not just listen to it :)

For me I use a Pioneer amp and 4 sony speakers in the front, two aiming forwards and on the floor, and the two smaller ones aiming up which are placed ontop of the large ones. Behind me I placed 2 Mission M71 speakers, which are against the wall. I got speaker extension cable so that I could stretch them so far, becasue both the cables run round one side of my room. The sound output is very good, but I never ever push my amp more than 3/4 way up for extended time becasue I could blow up the small Sony spekers in front of me. The amp outputs 150Watts and the Sony takes 75Watts... Doesn't take a geniuse to work out if I put too much power in the thing will smoke and blow!

Good Luck with your setup! :)

I have my JVC receiver on another table, and my desk is really big and I have have my two Sound Dynamics 50ti's (100 watts/channel, 3/4" tweeter, 5 1/4" midrange, 6 1/4" woofer) sitting on either corner of the desk. The further I put them apart, the better sound field I get...so they are pushed right to the back corners. Kinda big for computer speakers at about 20 pounds each but you can't beat the quality :)
