So as excited as I am for the surface pro, and windows x86 tablet/hybrids in general to come out, I think for the time being and until the windows app store develops, i probably will end up using my hybrid more as a laptop than a tablet.
When comparing to a surface pro, i think the yoga 13 is probably the better choice in many areas. When in laptop mode, i think the difference is night and day when comparing the two. Lenovo is one of the few laptop makers that can make a really nice keyboard, comparable to apple's. The "keyboards" I've seen so far for the surface RT has been very underwhelming, and none of which i would want to type for an extended period on.
Portability takes a big hit if you plan on using it mainly as a tablet, but you are getting a 13.3 inch screen vs the 10.6 on the pro. Lenovo is also coming out with an 11.6inch x86 model this summer - but at that point i think you'd be dumb not to wait for haswell.
I just went to best buy to check it out, and after using it, im pretty sold on it to hold me over until haswell, and possibly one more generation.
Im trying to think to myself why i would prefer a surface pro over the yoga, but right now the yoga is winning out. 1080p is nice, but that just means everything is gonna be super small when in desktop mode, and when i play games, its gonna be harder to play at that res. Im guessing battery life would probably be a push. Yes its a much better tablet, but i think most of the time id just be experimenting with windows 8 apps, so doesnt really help.
One question about this, and ultrabooks in general: Is 4GB of ram good enough, or is 8gb the minimum i should be looking for? The reason i ask is i saw the 4gb model on sale for less than 800, and I was tempted to jump on it. I would be doing some light gaming on it - are ivb ultrabooks good enough to play some decently challenging games? (Civ5, portal 2, maybe borderlands at low settings, diablo 3, XCOM?!)
