how do you guys do such a good job on your desktops? *needs help*

hi last time i played with making my desktop 'cooler' or just diff. it screwed up my shell and made my computer slow, and really messed up i know i did something wrong and i know all the sites, just would like some step by step? thanks guys... i would like some ideas, and some sites were you get all those cool things an add ons as well 🙂

but on the other hand., what are you looking to do? i mean, there are alot of various programs.

do you want a dock menu? show stats? shadows? need a wallpaper?

be more specific. i dont have time to list how to do everything, but i can list you to things..


yzdock, yzshadow, style xp, coolmon(man?) stats are some of the various programs used to give various special effects to say to the desktop.

about changing all the defualt icons that requires reshacking if you want to replace the .dll files and what not. that requires a bit more work though

the only real way to screw up your computer is if u screw around with the dll files, which is a little more advanced. but the third party programs most likely wont do any harm. they can just be unistalled if you dont like them

ill dissagree. i like coolmon better. summerize makes everything look too cluttered with its big icons and boxes. coolmon is simple and effective

Who cares about the desktop, anyway? I interact with what's INSIDE a window, not on the outside (like rounded borders, desktop, skins)...

Dat doez make sens.

Why would you want to make your windows "pretty"? I care more about functionality than the pretty rounded borders or buttons. Does it matter if MS Word is blue, pink, rounded, or transparent? People use it because it's feature-rich and friendly, not "pretty".

ok granted ill give you that. but most of us dont make word look pretty. we change teh desktop so its nice tolook at and we add functionality to it. I use Coolmon to display stats about my comp which is usefull. others use summerize to do teh same thing. it also display teh weather and if you have e mail thats very functional
