As you guys can see, I'm relatively new here. I've read some threads that are hundreds of posts long, and was wondering, how do you guys keep up?!?! I lose track of who's said what, get lost in all the embedded quotes, and basically become unsure of whom and/or what to reply to. Am I missing something? Is there a way to arrange the posts so that they're easier to read? Anyhow, I admire you guys' ability to process so much information and then come up with your own!

Unless I've been reading it from the beginning, I generally don't keep up with such threads. Unless I'm really bored and/or the topic seems really interesting. 
Edit: And it's not usually all that necessary to keep track of who said what, as people just tend to repeat things a lot in really long threads...or that's my observation anyway.

Usually they read like a book...but if you get lost, just post OMGWTFBBQ and you shall fit right in
if it's an interesting topic, I'll read the first page and the last page. if anything worth knowing was posted inbetween, it will probably be somewhere inside a nested quote on the last page of the thread.
The longer you're here, the more you'll get to know names and personalities. As far as the embedded quotes, you'll figure that out quicker than you might think. It's really quite easy once you get the hang of it. Lots of the embedded quotes repeat as new ones are added, so you don't have to read the entire thing twice. You'll quickly scan it and and realize you've already read it.
If I'm bored, I'll read an entire thread. However like some others have said, usually I'll read the first and last page of a long thread and let my brain fill in the gaps.

You learn to ignore certain types of threads... for example, if a thread has *OFFICIAL* or *CONFIRMED* or YAGT in it's message title it's probably best to not even bother looking at it. There are other categories but those are right off the top of my head.
You also learn to ignore threads started by certain individuals with huge attention-whore issues.
This makes it a lot easier to follow.

3) Most people don't read the threads, so they don't care how long it is.
4) Click on Topic View at the top right of this window and select 'Threading'. If everyone used it, the forum navigating would be wonderful. Unfortunately there is a quick reply function that distroys the 'Threading' view if too many people use it.

Most threads are summed up in the first 2-3 responses. The rest is just rehashed, useless banter. Postcount ++.
I use my 1337 speed-reading skills, which I developed back in college.
Generally late at nite when I can't sleep I is when I read the long threads. I figure boredom will put me to sleep. Haven't been wrong yet.
