How do you get the status bar to apeear all the time in Windows XP?

I've had this problem for a while, I just can;t get the darned thing to stay there. Sometimes it works, but once i open a new windows, it dissapears. It should also be appearing in the Shell, but only sometimes. can someone help me? The only thing I did was open IE, turn on the status bar, and close it, which should save it correct? doesn;t work thought

Try opening a new window. Is the status bar still there?
