How do you get the audio jack on the front of the CD-Rom drive to work?

I never bothered with the jack before but I am getting tired reaching around to the back of my computer and changing the speaker plug with the headphone plug....

Can I use the jack on the fron of the CD-Rom drive for headphones and just leave my speakers plugged in in the back?

I thought it only worked if you were playing a cd?

I dont even think mine have a jack anymore

Right, it's only for listening to an audio cd in that drive. Won't work for windows sounds, mp3's, etc.

yep and ONLY a true audio CD too... can't play mp3's that are on the CD in the drive, through that jack, either.

Neither my cdrw or dvd drive have them

get a soundcard like turtle beach santa cruz that has a headphone jack. in windows u can choose between outputs easily and all you have to do is plug an extention cord into the versa/headphone jack to bring it up to your desk for easy reach.

alternative is to keep your crummy current soundcard and use an extention cord anyways. that way you can swap plugs at desk level instead of behind the computer. simple solution.

cdrom drives come with the crummiest audio electronics ever. its because they don't really expect you to use the headphone feature for anything important, so the sound is crummy. your better off never using it. it only does cd audio anyhow.
