Im tryin a new look, I buzzed my hair short and want to grow a little bit of stubble on my face. I tried to clean up my neck tonite and I just razorburned and cut the crap out of my neck. What do you all use to give that nice clean look beneath your beard, and are there any websites with tips or trips with pictures on shaving suggestions or styles?

Thanks for the offer dickhead, but ill pass.

I always get razor burn on the lower half of my neck. For some reason it doesnt matter which way I shave there.... I have super sensitive skin, so that may be a part of it.... anyways....

any other useful info?

Two things:

1) Shave only after a hot shower and shave with the grain of the hair. I like Edge gel shaving cream as well since I'm also prone to razor burn.

2) Get a set of clippers with various guard lengths to keep the beard neat once it comes in.

What kind of shaving cream do you use? You certainly shouldn't be cutting/burning yourself. I have somewhat sensitive skin as well, and I find the gel (not foam) for sensitive skin helps considerably.

Are you really wanting a beard, or just the permanent stubble look?

ding ding.

but if you need to shave and are unable to have the shower before hand, wet down a towel with warm water, and put it on your shaving area for a couple minutes beforehand to moisten your skin (won't be dry and irritable)

Yup, although I get the towel as hot as I can stand it. There are some pre-shave lotions on the market that do the same thing IIRC, although I've not tried any of them and can't vouch for how well they do/don't work.

So, do you guys not shave against the grain at all? I always shave against the grain after first shaving with the grain, because if I don't I can feel (not see) some stubble. I use a mach 3 razor, and I change them frequently.

I used to, but my beard has gotten much coarser since I hit 30 and I end up feeling scalped if I do these days. I'll usually shave with the grain and then run the razor across the grain to get things nice and close. I think it's mostly an individual thing; some guys could dry-shave against the grain and not get razor burn.

Hasn't been mentioned - but use a good razor as well. The plastic disposables hacked the crap out of my neck. Switching to a Mach 3 helped out a bunch.

I always have to shave with the grain, but then when you run your hand the opposite way, you feel how rough it is. My roommate can dry shave with a normal razor no problem. I am unfortunately not that lucky. I do use edge sensitive gel, but I still manage to razor burn the hell out of myself. Last night I tried it with the grain around the bottom of my neck, then I tried to go against the grain to get it even closer and it ended up looking like I was a in a knife fight.

Are there any websites around that show different beard designs?

said what I have, I usually use a Remington triple foil electric razor. It doesn't quite do my neck, so I dry shave with a Mach3 to get it good. Sometimes there's a little irrition, most of the time none.

Whenever I need an extremely close shave however, I follow my own advice (shave after shower/towell), shave with the grain, then go back relotion, and shave against the grain. Does the job great, but no matter what on my face it usually causes a little irritation (hence why I rarely go that route and the electric does a good enough job)

Are you sure we aren't brothers? This similarly between us is getting scary, except for your thong fetish. ;)

It's not a fetish, it's a lifestyle choice. Why can't you understand this? :brokenheart:

I find that its easier and faster to shave IN the shower. You can either buy a small metal mirror (REI) or you can just learn to shave without a mirror.

I used the Neutrogena Razor Defense stuff back when I was using a regular razor, it seemed to help with the razor burn.

I got a norelco electric razor a year or so ago and it works GREAT. I can literally shave in under 5 minutes, and that's if I use my trimmer to touch up my goatee. It's got the lotion cartridges, but I keep forgetting to buy a new pack of the stuff so I've been using it without them with equal luck.

its also damn tough to grow stubble and have it look good when your hair color is blonde....
