..in other words, how do you get Win2k to list the directories' full names instead of shortening them and using those stupid tildes (the ~ sign).

I'm brand new to Win2k. I set up a dual boot, and in Win98se, there's no problem - the directories show their full names, like "Drivers - Win2k" instead of "Driver~1". In Win2k, I've got directories with tildes galore....

cheesewhiz - well, in mine, it would probably read "Paul~1". They're the directories on my D drive, if that makes a difference. On the C drive, Program Files reads as "Program File". I can't figure this out.

Seems like Win2K is having some problems with the extended name entries....have you tried a Defrag or scandisk? That may fix the problem.

A little light bulb just went off, so I just tried removing a directory to C and setting up an new folder on D with the name I originally had - and it worked. :D

I've got to reboot for a program I installed, so I'm going to go into Win98se and see if it recognizes the new folder. If it does, then I'm probably going to have to let Win2k set up the directories. Be back in a sec...

I'm not quite sure what you're talking about. Do you mean what appears in the address bar in "My Computer"? On my Win2k system it shows just the folder that I'm in, not the entire path. Open up "My Computer" and click on tools--->folder options--->and then the "View" tab. There is an option that says "Display the full path in the address bar".

It might be fine if you convert it to NTFS. It sounds like it's in ISO.

Shooters - I'm talking about the name of a folder. For example, a folder I called MP3 Files was showing as MP3FIL~1 on my D drive [set up for data].

Anyway, I've got it solved. I don't know why I didn't think of this before, but all I have to do is rename the folders and let Win2k setup the names. I originally named them in 98se and, for whatever reason, after I setup the dual boot and installed Win2k, it renamed them to the shortened format as if they had DOS limitations, i.e., 8 places.

Hey, sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees... ;)
