My yard is a total mess because my mother always used to buy crap that was huge and could not be gotten rid of. I have crap like a big sand pool filter, big dog house, picknik table, bunch of huge baby toys and other stuff linning my yard and it just looks like a dump. How do you get rid of this crap? Easiest way is DO NOT BUY BIG junk.

Now I have a big upright vacuum that is broken because the lady who cleans my house is careless but I think that is small enough for the city to take. We have put sofas and stuff on the curb and people have taken them (I live on a busy street) but I don't think worthless junk would be taken in this manner.

Take it to the dump? My town has a cleanup every year where you can drop anything off for free ... fridges, trees/shrubs, paint cans, anything. Brilliant service, and great to clean up in the Spring & Fall.

Bulk pick-up is every Thursday in my town.

Contact your town or local garbage company and ask...

Why wouldn't the city take those items? I've been able to toss furniture and building materials with no problems. Only thing they won't take is oil, paint, computers and anything toxic.

depends on what it is and the condition...ultimately of course you can haul it to the dump but I use to try to get any body and everybody to recycle anything first.
ie.. have gooten rid of junk bikes at bikeshop where they wanted to fix it up
have gotten rid of old lawnmowers and other metal at scrapyards for free although its getting harder
have gotten appliance junkers to pick up old washers/dryers
recycle any aluminum
have gotten local tv shop to take old tv's off my hands for parts

if its still useable give it to charity.
be creative just don't be a moron and dump it in the woods or something.

Or any given trailer park so they can put it on the front porch by the refrigerator.

You just throw this stuff out where the trash collection occurs? Sofas are way too big. They will only take stuff that can fit in a 35 gallon garbage can. There is what is called brush collection which comes twice a year. I cut down tress and pile it out there but they say on the flyer the max size is 4x4. I guess I can get out my circular saw and cut stuff in half.

Oh yeah, and I don't have a truck to take stuff to the dump.

And I have a lawnmower that is sitting outside. It finally fell apart because of rust. I would feel guilty if I just put that out on the sidewalki for some sucker to take. Should I feel guilty about doing that? I am sure the engine works but the gas tank fell off.

Got a craigslist for your area or something like it? You can get rid of anything for free that way.
