How do you get first credit card?

Well, I recently got a job and stuff, and turned 18...now im wondering, what do I do to get a credit card. I applied over the net for one at my bank and it said some loan advisor is gonna call me or something like that. how did you guys get your first card? did you have to share it with your parents, or something like that?

i applied for amex blue for students and got it. makes sense.. most students don't have any credit so student cards are not too hard to get

Try www.capitalone.com They give them out pretty easy. Student ones would probably be easier to get but some companies require a co-signer. Good luck

I think I signed up for a Universal Platinum MasterCard, or the Associates Visa. Didn't have any problems with either one so far.

Aww ya know what, I turned 18, had my liscense, and a checking account, and wasn't in college and NO ONE would give me a credit card! I still haven't been able to get one yet.

I got my credit report (of course I applied, got turned down, and was able to get the report) and it said I had no good credit or bad credit. I'm still pissed about that.

I needed a checking account so i can get a direct deposit on my paychecks for my summer job. I was a full time student so i walked into the bank and opened an account, and was told that I am automatically approved for a student visa card with a $600 limit. I walked out of the bank with a visa.

I went to my bank and talked to the lady at the front. I filled out some forms, and a week or so later, i got my creditcard.

For some reason, once i got into University, i was all of a sudden bombarded by creditcards that i never even signed up for.

Got a capital one student card w/$500 limit. Within a year, they raised it to $1500. I don't use it, but its still open. I was able to get a Chase Platimum Mastercard w/ $5000 limit after 2 years. That's my main card, but I still don't use either very often.

I just applied for a secured credit card, with a 500 dollar limit, through my credit union. I could have set the limit higher, since I have over 5k in my savings account, but I chose not to. with the secured card, they freeze up however much money your limit is from your bank account. THe money is still there, but you can't spend it.

I had my first one at 16 years old. They just seem to give them away when you're young. Even had a sears card then, and they are more picky than MC/Visa

I started out by taking out a loan at age 18 for $1000, then depositing it in the savings account and paying it back automaticly every month just to build credit. I did that for a few years and recieved my first pre-approved credit card. That was about 8 years ago...now after paying off multiple car loans of about $110,000 total between 3 cars...I get credit card applications every other day at least. Im still in debt about 12k with my wife and my sears gold cards, but they keep coming and coming. I just wish they would stop!!!!!

I also heard somewhere that the average american over 18y/o has about 8k worth of credit debt.

I just got my first one in the mail today. They had a booth in one of our buildings a few weeks ago. They were giving away these really cool pens, so I though I'd get the credit card to get the pen.

I now have an Amex Blue, Discover and CitiBank MC.

i got a visa application at the bank when i was depositing my check...2 weeks later
and i finally sent the application in

then
2 more weeks later
and i realized it was in my car, and THEN i took it to the bank

and then, like 2 weeks later, i got a credit card
and my wife got one, with her name on it...but she doesnt know it and ive kept it hidden from her
