how do you get back into the corporate world after being away for a year?

so i'm nearing the end of my travels, and recently, the realization i need to start looking ahead and 'grow up' finally hit me. but how does one go about getting back into the workforce after being gone for a year? how can i account for that gap in my resume? people who hire or work in HR, any ideas how i should spin my experiences into something positive, and downplay the fact i've been out of the industry for some time?

A year is not a very long time. Unless you were in jail during your "travels" on a felony conviction, I would not worry about it. Your skills, education, and experiences will get you the job.

Lots of times people thinking taking time off to travel the world and experience other cultures is a big benefit for a person to have.

you have it all documented on the web, right? just have them check out your photos and stuff. other than maybe having to start at entry level /lower level, i don't see a problem

Your year experiencing the world & its cultures is far more valuable than a year of peon office work. If a company looks down on you for exploring, you don't want to work there anyway. It may be difficult to find a job with recent 3+ years experience type jobs, but it is certainly do-able.

<-- spent a year abroad, and made it back into the corporate world unscathed 🙂 Good luck.

Your trip should benefit for you because it shows character and open minded personality. I wish I can do the same. Its hard to drop everything that I built and just go travel, but I would love to do it.
