I read/heard that all you have to do is have links to your site from other sites. If there's any truth to that it sure hasn't worked for me.
Does a site have to be 'submitted' to search engines for submission?

Google won't list you unless you are linked to from another site that they have listed. Other search engines will find you the same way as Google or you can submit through the search engine site itself.
Actually, it's better to do more than submitting to DMOZ. DMOZ can take months, years, or you may never get listed at all without ever knowing why, or if and when they may list you. I know because I used to be one of their category editors. In addition to submitting to DMOZ, get a link to your site from another site that you know is already listed in Google. This is the surest way that Google will find you and list you.Originally posted by: troytime
if you want in google, submit your site to dmoz
pick your keywords and make sure your site has relavent content and usage of those keywords - don't abuse them or try to cheat the algorithm, google will ignore your site completely if you do so
a good way to get traffic AND link popularity is google adwords
pick your keywords/phrases and set a small budget $5 per day or so depending on what CPC will get you in the top 10 sponsors
after a week or two sites with adwords will have been indexed with your links on them (giving you link popularity)
you'll be indexed, if your link popularity and page rank are decent you'll earn natural placement towards the top of the search results.
if your domain has the keyword(s) present, you'll receive bonus points from google and likely outrank the sites without those keywords in their domain
that wont work, adwords is run through javascript, Google(or any search engine bot) won't index it.Originally posted by: troytime

You should start a thread asking all the ATOT members with websites to crosslink each other so we could communally get to the top of Google's search resultsHealth message boards with over 4 members using vBulletin!
It's been spidered. I did a search using:Originally posted by: rnmcd
I've also submitted to DMOZ.
Since this site (Anantech.com) is listed in google won't a sig link get my site spidered?
The thing is my site is listed on google only as its URL: www.besthealthboards.com but none of the content is found in a google search.
That mean's I haven't been spidered right?
