Almost correct, a Newfie (as the first post has noted) is a person from Newfoundland, a Province in Canada.

You could wave at him or give him a bottle of screech. Either would work.

I know that Newfoundland is a province on Canada but alot of american don't know where is canada and certainly never heard of newfoundland.
