How do you format an external USB HDD?

I bought an external UBS enclosure for a HDD and but in a Western Digital HDD. Connected it and fired it up, all went smooth. But it doesn?t show up in the My Computer menu.

Device Manager sees it and says its working fine, I can see the drive enclosure in the task bar I can ever look at the drive in the Device Manager and see the drivers/status/ect.

What do I do?

I?m running WinXP Pro with an MrPower SATA~USB drive enclosure. I don?t have any SATA slots on my motherboard so i can plug it in and format it. Any suggestions? Thanks

Right Click on "My Computer"
Select "Manage"

Computer Management will now be displayed..
In the middle should be the "Storage" section
"Disk Management" should be your avenue of approach to freshly format this external USB drive.

Adding on to that, you may want to consider setting up at least one partition of roughly 32 Gig(or less) and formatting it with FAT32, so that the drive can be used with Win9x boxes, since those can't read NTFS. Of course, your use may not involved Win9x boxes, but it's something I've encountered from time to time. 😉
