how do you Firefox users work around WMP problems?

I was trying to use firefox, and it was quite impressive, but as soon as i went to one of my frequent video game sites, IGN to be exact, to view some previews of games, firefox wouldn't load them, i saw the regedit for WMP9 to work, but that was a no go, so i uninstalled firefox. Do you firefox guru's have any work arounds?

I've never had any problems with WMP in Firefox.

And because i'm a forum nazi, why is this in Hardware?

heh... what I do is use adblock 😀

You can normally get the direct link to the videos using ad-block. Copy-paste onto toolbar... DONE!

That does nothing. Sites like Launch.com that use WMP don't work on Firefox without major hacking in the Firefox registry.

I've never used Launch.com, but I can tell you that WMP does work with Firefox in general. For example, the WMP option under IFILM works perfectly.

Yea I guess it works on that site. But it doesn't work on Launch.com, nor Gametrailers.com... And it sucks cause I view those sites alot. Gametrailers isn't so bad cause I can just use Quicktime as an alternative. But still I wish it worked on all WMP pages.

The reason why you can't view videos in Launch is not because of WMP, but because of the built in pop up blocker. When you click on a link for a video, the site wants to open a new window. Just unblock that site from the pop up blocker.

ok, i've tried everything, i tried uninstalling firefox, and wmp, then reinstalled firefox, then wmp with still no results, i've also tried installing wmp first, as well as trying the registry fix, still no go on the IGN game sites.

IGN sucks anyway...

I can't view the videos there either, but why can't you use the link to download the files.... and then open them up that way.. they work fine then.

It's bad coding on Launch's site.

They coded the html object to only cater to IE. Netscape/Moz requires different syntax.

no wmp issues here.

realplayer issues, but hey i made an effort at not installing that so no big surprises there 😉

anyone know how to get WMPClassic to be the standard program to open web movies that it can open? (i could look this up but it only just occured to me)

No, at least, not for me. It wants a newer version of (as far as I can remember) Netscape or IE.

no, launch just won't work on anything but IE. the pop-up loads, but the plugin fails and you just get an error message from launch telling you to use internet explorer.
