I got a project and I am having a hard time feeling motivated to do it... It enjoy programming but this darn thing requires documents writing all sorts of other software engineering stuff that I am not interested in...

Yes I will be off the forums soon :) (I am sure many of you will say that is the first step :p)

Hehe, me too but I need to change that :)

I envy those who had schedule a couple hours a day to do homework... I get to many fricken calls from people that ask me to fix their computer and do other stuff for them that I can't really keep a schedule...

If you see me post after the hour I ask you to flame me until I wimper away and cry!

Think that if I DON'T do it my grades will suffer, and thus my future.

That usually does it.

This works for me all the time:

If you have a clock that you look at in the room, change the time and move it ahead about 2 hours. Then, go away someplace and have a drink of water. Come back into the room and look at the clock. You're gonna want to finish whatever u gotta do

TheBlondOne - I think my problem originates from high school. I never studied and graduated with an 88% avg... first year university I walked through without studying and kept up a 3.5. Now it's 4th year and it's a whole new ball game :) I never got into the habit of studying and now I am suffering because of it.

It's amazing how much one can accomplish during the last minute :)

I usually pop in my Crystal Method cd, that usually primes me up for any job that may seem too difficult, or any that i just feel too lazy to do :p

Alright, I am out of here! Just gonna play a few rounds of Return to Castle Wolfenstein and then I will get cracking :)

My Mom promised to get me Civilization III from Christmas to make sure I actually do school work :)

I know what you mean. I don't mind writing about stuff I want to write, but I hate writing about stupid essays of defined type which I have no interest in and they grade so harshly. As far as getting yourself motivated, you'd have to break the ice and get on with it. Turn off the TV, turn off your Quake 3 and work!.

I'd usually invite friends over and send all my male friends home and stay with female friends. They are soooo helpful when it comes to school stuff. In presence of my male friends, they goof around too much and I won't get a darn thing done.

I put on country music and tell myself I can't turn it off until I finish my homework. I get it done fast that way.

7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens helps a little. It tells you to schedule the worst things for last therefore you don't have to rush and do everything after you figure out the worst / hardest thing. Therefore, let's say you have a project due over the weekend. You also have 5 homework assignments in the other classes. You should do the 5 smaller assignments first therefore you focus everything on the project.

1. unplug ethernet, the internet is too big of a distraction
2. delete solitaire and freecell, too much temptation.
3. turn tv off

that's about it. I have a really hard time staying focused too. I usually take a 1 hour assignment and stretch it out to 2.5 hours because of all the distractions.

I'd prol do a lot better on my homework if I could get someone to block ATOT and not tell me the password.
