There is no such thing as "price gouging" to me. Either you buy the unit for X amount or you go somewhere else.

Even then, I wouldn't call it gouging.

For example, I remember people selling milk for higher-than-normal prices after some earthquake growing up.

The issue wasn't that they just wanted everyone's money, it was that they wouldn't be resupplied for a while, had a scarcer amount than normal, and price was the fairest way to decide who got the last few cartons.

To me, price gouging is charging a high price for something that one is forced to buy, whether by government decree or intimidation (possibly mafia intimidation).

I bet you'd flip if you knew how much retail markup is on a lot of the stuff you buy...

I know that many clothing retailers double their money on the majority of items they sell. Smaller "impulse buy" items have even larger profit margins in the order of 300% (e.g. cost the retailer $4.00 you pay $12.95) or more. I have no idea what the standard markups for electronics are though.

Obviously, you've been to every Mom and Pop store in the country to be able to so boldy call someone an idiot. I congratulate you on being well traveled.

Dude they are being closed in on all sides by franchises.

Now its not that I don't support free enterprise, I'm just saying that this is a good way for these small stores to make up all that money they lost during the year.

Don't like the prices... don't buy em.

Simple as that.

Meh, I was just poking fun as you ended your first post with "idiot." Pretty much an unwarranted attack on a person asking a question.

Like bottled Water.

Stupid people have made the bottled water phenomenon possible.

Which is why bottled water should be taxed like cigarettes or gasoline.

i do not understand it when people buy it when they live in town.

THOUGH saying that i lived in Dekalb, IL. they have been sued at least 3-4 times over the quality of the water. they have been fined by the state/feds a few times. the water is/was not safe to drink. i would buy bottled water.

with the farm house we have a well. the water was safe to drink but tasted really bad. but we just put in a RO water system. yummm. the water was a LOT better.

but anyway some areas people really do need to buy bottled water. (yes i know maybe 30% do)

I saw somewhere (ArsTechnica?) that stores pay very close to retail for the consoles themselves, which is why they push the warranties, accessories, and $100 Monster USB cables so hard.

One man's price gouging is another man's supply/demand equasion.

Would you rather see a bunch of people buying multiple units, denying access to the limited supply of product to the masses?

We had a boil water order issued here a couple years ago. It's better now but for some time water from any tap in town smelled like it might have come from a sewer line rather than any water purification facility. You could fill a gallon jug from the tap, set it on a table and watch as about half an inch of particulates settled to the bottom.

Things were like that for a long long time A lot of people still buy drinking water for cooking and drinking around here and I can't say I blame them.

Just a testimony from someone in that minority...
