How do you feel about religious people (the type that don't push their religion on you)

Removing the pushy type of religious people from the picture here (since anybody being pushy tends to be irritating, whether they're pushing Amway, God or carnival games.)

How would you class yourself as you relate to religious people? Why do you put yourself in that category?

They should just integrate it in P&N since it's basically the same thing.

Arcadio would have flooded it and chased all the real R&S threads back to OT anyway. :p

Yes, because we need less activity in OT.

Nobody makes you click on religion threads.

None of those choices really fit.

?I admire them for having convictions even though I'm not religious myself

That one's close, except convictions isn't really right - faith in something higher (whether correct or not) can give a person a sort of peace. I think there's something willfully ignorant about the faithful and I find it irritating on that level, but I'm also sort of envious of that sort of ignorant bliss.

Overall, I'm live and let live.

The ones that push it on me need to be set on fire. The ones that do not push it on me are fine. I think they're weak-minded crutch-needing hypocrites most of the time, but that's their decision to be, not mine.

I've been pretty good friends with some of them, and they've never had any problem with my viewpoint or discussing theirs.

I'm pretty much the "live and let live" option, except that I can never shake the feeling in the back of my mind that they must have something wrong with their head to actually believe what the Bible says. So I voted for the next one down.

I can even carry on meaningful conversations with them and everything. It's just that there's always the thought of patronizing them (even if I don't vocalize it).

Meh, two of my co-oworkers are preachers and they've been the least judgemental and critical people I've known. Maybe you're just meeting the wrong people.

Religion does absolutely nothing for me, but if it makes other people happy more power to them I guess.

I really don't care, nor do I ever think about it unless someone makes a thread here asking the question.

I like 'em fine as individual people.

In the abstract, I look down on them as irrational and unable to face truth and am angry with them affecting my life with their votes based on their cockamamie views.

The problem with religion threads is that they always paint with a broad brush. There are many religions, some of which have god, deity or higher power. My problem with these threads is that they always spiral down, or up, to Christianity. If someone wants to start a Christianity thread then they should state so in their subject. If it is to be all encompassing, then it isn't a religious thread because atheism is, by definition, a religion.

I guess your patronizing feelings towards non-religious people are pretty similar to the patronizing feelings I have towards religious people.

It would be hypocritical of me to criticize you for that, though, since I'm openly admitting to feeling this way about religious people. Just pointing out that both religious and non-religious people look down on each other and see themselves as superior.
