How do you feel about being invited to write a review for a supplier's product?

I get e-mails from my suppliers on a regular basis asking me to review my experience with them or a product. However I never actually click on the link they provide to write the review because the link is almost invariably leading to some marketing company's website which pretty much by definition I wouldn't trust with my contact details.

I've done a few Amazon reviews but only because they're entirely handled through the Amazon website rather than a third party.

I'm just wondering if everyone else here feels the same way or whether you've done those reviews with third party organisations, and if so what your experience in the long term was.

It reminds me a bit of one of my customers who for a while said that they do all kinds of marketing surveys in their (retired, lots of spare) time and get coupons for such-and-such that they use, but in the end they got so inundated with spam from such companies that they packed it in.

I got a postcard offering me remuneration for rating an Amazon product once. I gave the seller a bad rating, because they're not supposed to do that. I never rated that product.

I ordered an exercise bike from amazon. The handlebar adjustment knob was shattered so I contacted their support. The items were sent from china in a couple of days. The rep said if I leave a review and a comment about the support they would give me a refund of $50. I jumped at the chance to leave the review.

I leave reviews if I especially like/dislike a product, am bored, or have particular expertise in a product. Chances increase if previous reviews were left by idiots.

"The item arrived faulty so I left a one-star review"
"I experienced a problem that I wouldn't have experienced if I had read the manual / item description / understood the topic"
