How do you feel about 60 Minutes II's decision to release the Abu Gharib story? Not the abuse, but CBS's actions

Well let me start off . . . off topic. Bush says he's disgusted . . . but he knew about it for several months. Apparently he wasn't so disgusted to make a public pronouncement to our troops and the world that such behavior would not be tolerated. It's reasonable to conclude we would all be in the dark about these episodes if a small contingent of the press didn't take their responsibility seriously.

Journalists report what's going on. Few challenged the weekly if not daily reports of WMD by FOXNews despite the sketchiness of the evidence. FOX was wrong but . . . hell I'm being redundant.

CBS reported events that were not only true . . . but they were well documented and under investigation by the military. CBS should be commended.

CBS ROCKS! There is ONLY truth, nothing else matters. There is NO SUCH THING as selective journalism, or rather there shouldn't be. What happens, happens, and people have a right, and even a NEED to know about it. The government & businesses have NO RIGHTS, nor should they. They are not real entities, they possess only the reality we give them.

Report ALL truth. No one is special, no one is better, no one is exempt. Politics is BS. Business is BS. There is only truth.

It did happen and it is an ugly abuse of power. I feel ashamed of the Men and Women who would commit such an act. We got rid of Saddam for a reason !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's right! How's it go again? Something about vials and mushroom clouds or something like that.

CBS sat on the story for over a month. Only when leaks got out to the danish press and it was going to go mainstream did they feel it was time. No CBS not any other major news network rock. Their all infiltrated by governemnt agents engaged in mind control. If you have any doubt do a google search on the Church Commision and tell me what changed or what precautions are there to prevent this from happening. But I don't need a commison to tell me just the cheerleading before the war and letting Bush slide on tough questions told me that.

Thank God for the press. If it weren't for the press we would be involved in a hideous and useless war in Iraq over nonexistent weapons of mass destruction.

There's truth in the saying, "The truth shall make you free." Doesn't matter how ugly that truth may be. It would be an ugly sin if it was suppressed.

How are we supposed to know what needs fixing if we don't know the problem exists?

How can we even pretend to think we freed anyone from a monsterous torturing regiem if our guys turn around and do the same thing? Abuses like this are part of humanity, and if some of our guys cross the line, the difference between us and them is, we stand up and take responsiblity for it and fix it as fast as possible and in the clear light of public knowledge.

Secrecy about this kind of thing can only breed more abuses.

I'm not surprised they didn't release this earlier. And to think that people believe that there's such thing as fair and balanced news in the usa. Perhaps fair as deemed neccessary by the government....
This should have been front page news all over the usa, however, i'm sure the michael jackson story took precedent about this little minor international incident....

They were asked to with hold the story for a while during the Falluja mess, and they did, so they should be commended. Overall I think is its better it came out in our press. Waking up one morning to find this story pasted all over the Arab media would have been (more of) a nightmare.

Beyond that, I am deeply disappointed in the actions of these few. Training or no training, this incident gravely injures the dignity of the citizens, military, and of the government of the United States. The same is true for the Iraqi people and greater Arab world. Every one of those people was entrusted with the respect of our nation, and they failed every single one of us in their responsibility.
I cannot think of a greater shame in our recent history.
