How do you establish credit if you can't get a credit card?

I'm 19 years old and would like to start getting some credit but whenever I apply for a credit card I get rejected due to the fact that there is "no credit bureau on file". What can I do?

Try sears, best buy, and other store cards.

Buy stuff and pay it off before the end of the month. In no time, you'll have creditors beating down your door trying to sign you up.

Start with a secured credit card (pay the card company something like $200-300 and you're limit equals that)

Stick with that for 6 months or so, keep the balance PAID IN FULL each month. Then, call them and ask to switch to an unsecured credit card.

You have basically two choices:

1) Get a co-signer (does not have to be a parent), get your brother, sister, girlfriend, best friend, neighbor, school friend, to co-sign on a credit card with you.

2) The best option is to get a SECURED CREDIT CARD. Even if you have ZERO credit history you can get one, just save up $300-$500 and contact your local bank about getting a SECURED CREDIT CARD. I remember 2 years ago, an AT'er who had just turned 18, I told them they could get a credit card. Of course they did not believe me. They went to their local bank (A Washington Mutual) with $500, 10 minutes later they were approved. One week later their $500 cc arrived in the mail. Two years later they have cc's totalling $5,000

How can you not be getting your mailbox filled with junk about all your pre-approved credit cards? Please tell me your secret!!!!!
Even pets get them nowadays.

I am really surprised you've been in college 2 years and haven't gotten a credit card yet. I know back in my college days I signed up for close to 20 credit cards just so I could get the free t-shirts, frisbees, pens, mugs, and other crap they offered for signing up. Check your student center, alot of credit card companies offer college credit cards which you should be able to qualify for.

Basically everything that is a "bill" adds to your credit rating. If you have any utility in your name, you should have some credit score. Also, having a checking account at a bank for a certain amount of time will get you some credit points. If you just moved, your credit might be a little messed up. Ask Rossman... he's the resident expert (or so I hear).

I had no problem establishng credit. Then again, my mom put my name on her card and we put my first years tuition + room & board and two computers on it and I just paid it off with cash. Now I have like $10,000 in credit.

Secured is a good way to get it. Almost everyone can get one. I say almost because when I had no credit capital one wouldn't give me one. Screw them. $200 secured card with a $46k/year income at the time and no credit card? Well, I now have 700+, bitch, and you sluts are never going to have me as a customer. Eat it, f*(kers! :D
