how do you edit a divx AVI?

I tried a few programs to edit an AVI taht was encoded with Divx.

When I write out the file, it gets writtne a regualar avi, so is now huge again.

What editing programs will write out a divx avi after editing?

VCDcut seems the best so far, but has some issue where I am limited to one minute files..

Your problem isn't in the file, but the fact that you're not specifying a compressor for the output.

If your "editing" is just clipping and such, there's no need to reencode and you'll in fact lose quality.

Try VirtualDub or the offshoot VirtualDubMod.
