How do you do VPN? Home FIOS connection.

Just wondering how other people handle it. I currently have a couple of Netgear WRN834Bv2 N routers, in WDS mode, as secondary routers to my Verizon ActionTec, which is connected by coax to my ONT. I set up VPN access in DD-WRT, and have a dyndns name, and it all works, but because it runs the encryption on the router's CPU, it runs very slowly. Tranferring some ISOs to my NAS, over the VPN link, at 235KB/sec. Then again, that might have to do with the Comcast connection that I'm currently on, with the limit on upload speed.

I can get 1.5MBYTE/sec downloading from my web server off of my FIOS connection, without using the VPN.

Downloading an ISO off of the NAS, over the VPN, gives me around 307KB/sec.

So is there any way I can get a VPN running, at the full speed of my FIOS connection? Perhaps a dedicated VPN router? Would that work, behind my ActionTec? If I have to, I'll drop TV, and then have them connect my ONT straight to my router, so I won't need the ActionTec.

5Mbit capability. Would be nice to get something that could handle 25Mbit VPN full-speed though.

If you're on a 15mb comcast line, vpn'd into a FIOS connection, more then likely that 235KB/s is comcast's upload cap.

You're either at your upload limit, or you need a VPN device with more processor power.

VirtualLarry, try a cleartext FTP from site to site in the same direction of a large file and see what throughput you get. Your VPN is not going to exceed that throughput. Size gear accordingly.
