I've never had one, always got rid of it when installing windows, but a bud has one and he wants to get rid of the pw prompt when w98 starts up. Any way to get rid of this? thnx,
j
ps: yes, i did do a search but didn't find anything 🙂

Go into passwords in control panel. Tell it all users use the same settings/account something like that. I can't remember the exact wording off the top of my head.

In network properties make sure it is set to Windows logon in the drop down menu that's halfway down the dialog box.

You also have to locate al the *.pwl files and delete them !
Sometimes you can't use win-logon = when you have a network.
In that case install tweakui ; in that proggie there is an option to disable the passwordlogon and still have acces to a network

Greetings,

after you delete the *.pwl files and set user to system, upon the first reboot a logon screen will appear....logon without a password and the logon screen should go away.

And logon without password also means that you actually leave the password blank and logon, not hit ESC.

Also, make sure network properties it set to windows login, not network login,

Heck you do not have to edit the PWL files. Just go into control panel click on passwords and change the password, type in the old password and change it to "nothing" just leave it blank the next boot up when it asks for the password leave the password space blank and click ok. Probably will never see it again.
