How do you disable the HPT366 controller in the bios?

I want to disable the integrated HighPoint 366 controller in the bios so I can use a PCI Promise Ultra 100TX2 controller for two ata 100 IBM hd's. I have a bios and driver issue in Win2k w/ the onboard hpt366 so I want to disable it so Windows 98,2k, and XP do not recognize it when installing the operating systems. I also want to disable USB to free up an IRQ. Why does Windows 98SE continue to recognize the HPT366 when I have no hard drives on the HPT366 controller. I have a SOYO 6BA+IV BX mb. I do not want Windows to recognize USB or the HPT366 onboard controller. The USB is set to no IRQ assigned. There seems to be no settings in the bios for disabling either? (Award 4.51 latest Soyo Bios w/ HPT366 v 1.28) I also had the drives running in ata 66 mode via the IBM utility when they were installed on the hpt366 controller. I formatted the partition and did a clean install of WIN98SE and see it ask for 3 mass storage drivers(should be one for the promise card) and it detects USB. I switched the drives back to ata100(via IBM utility) before I switched them over to the Promise controller and did the clean install.

USB & ata controllers are usually disabled in the BIOS under integrated peripherals. You might have a jumper to enable/disable the highpoint controller as well.

There are no settings under Integrated peripherals and there are no physical jumpers. I know these are typically turned off in the bios but the settings are just not there? I have ide1, ide 2, ide 3(hpt366), ide 4(hpt366). The only settings that I thought may apply were the On-Chip Primary and Secondary PCI IDE. I was under the impression that these settings controlled ide-1 and ide-2. Ctrl+H does not allow me to enter the hpt366 bios either even though I do not recall a disable setting when there were drives attached to ide 3 and ide 4.

Hopefully someone running the 6BA+IV can reply. You can change the boot sequence to a, c, scsi and the ata/scsi to scsi since you have a promise card. Since you are going to use Win 2K you should not have IRQ issues.

I appreciate your help. Yeah, hopefully someone has already had this problem. I wanted to triple boot all three os's (the very reason I purchased a compatible controller). I just do not like the fact that Win98se is looking for the drivers and reporting absent device drivers in device manager and asking me for the drivers every time I boot into 98SE. My ABIT-VP6 allows me to diable both USB and the ATA100 controller in the bios. It would seem to be a needed setting on the SOYO board.

You cant dissable the HP controller on that mainboard. Just install the drivers and leave it alone. The Promise card will work fine with that board and changing the boot sequence to scsi works just fine with the Ultra66/100 cards.
