I got this Tekram K7KX-A (Via KX-133) MoBO, Athlon 950mhz CPU and 128mb PC-133 sdram for $20.00, from a friend that upgraded to a KT-333 ddr system.

This is going into a system for one of my son's friends and it will run Windows 2000 Pro.
This motherboard has onboard AC97 sound and onboard AMR sound and modem.

We want to put in a new Sound Blaster 128 but can not get the onboard sound to disable.
I disabled the sound in both places in BIOS but the jumpers on the mobo seem to be another story.

The manual only shows three jumper settings as follows:
1) Onboard AC97 Sound
2) Onboard AMR Sound and Modem Riser
3) Both of the above
4) There is no clear setting for disabling these onboard items.

We went through the manual and looked on the Tekram website, but found nothing.
I tried taking the jumpers completely out, but after installing Win2000, the Sound Codecs were installed, and putting in the sound card caused all sorts of problems.

We reformatted and reinstalled Windows 2000, and tried deleting all of the sound items in Device Manager and then put the sound card back in, but this did not work either.

We reformatted and reinstalled Windows 2000 again, and went ahead and installed the latest onboard sound drivers and are using them for now, but as you all know, the quality of the AC97 is not that good.

Does any one know the proper procedure for disabling sound on this style board so that you can put in a third party sound card?
