How do you disable Program Installation at my workplace?

I know this is possible and i did my research (googled) and i still have no surefire way of being able to disable program installations.

I need users to be able to save stuff on their harddrives and have some programs be able to be changed, however, I DO NOT WANT the users to be able to install P2P stuff..

And no, a LIMITED ACCOUNT will not work because this interferes with our programs at work. Limited Account disables one of our mortgage programs for some reason..

So any thoughts? Any inputs?

Warn people that those who get caught installing P2P software ONCE will be terminated. Enforce it.

Send out a policy that if P2P applications are found on your company PC, you will be fired. End of problem :thumbsup:

You'll get better responses in the OS forum, but group policy and limited accounts are the best way to enforce this with a technical solution. If your mortgage program requires administrative access, you can always set up shortcuts to run that program with elevated privileges.

Set up a firewall that can monitor for traffic. Find said users using P2P and lock their sh!t down.

If your users are administrators on their local machines, you can't stop them from doing ANYTHING. Period.

You can block P2P ports on your firewall.

But the best solution is a written acceptable use/security policy that you can enforce.

We use Threat Shield. I get a kick out of the people who try playing Freecell 20 times in a row. You'd think they get the hint. It monitors and blocks a huge database of exe files.
