How do you deal with people signing up for stuff with your e-mail address?

Since I have a really short e-mail address (First name and last initial at gmail.com), I find that a lot of rude people with the same name as me use it to randomly sign up for stuff online. Because of this, I find that I get a lot of random crap in my inbox that isn't addressed to me.

A lot of it is from car dealers, "free" trial offers where the person needed to provide an e-mail address, e-mailed invoices meant to go to someone else, and various gaming and dating services.

I kinda enjoy screwing with the people who sign up for dating services and social networks with my e-mail address. Since most sites only require an e-mail address to send a password reset link, I can then log into their account and change their account settings. I found that changing their settings from straight to gay and liking a bunch of dudes on the site is usually good enough to get them to stop using the account 🙂

I get the same kind of crap all the time. Probably the worst was some idiot trying to rent vacation properties and used my email address. I set him up with a nice 2-week vacation in a $10,000/ week rental house...

I stopped getting the emails shorty afterward.
