How do you deal with non compact cameras?

I have always had compact cameras for as long as I have had a digicam. They have always been small enough to fit in my pocket and easy to take anywhere.

How do you deal with having a non compact cam? How do you carry them around with you? How do you take them out when you go places? Do they get in the way when you are places? How do you walk around with them?

I am really curious about this. I have a camera in my pocket right now and I usually keep ones with me when I go places. If its some huge non compact I wouldnt even know what to do with it or how I would take it around.

I want a better camera, one that takes nice pictures, and all of them that seem to be really nice and be what I want are larger, like the Canon G9 and such, but they just seem like such clunkers.

Is it possible to get into bigger cameras and still be able to take them around with you?

It's nice to have both a compact and a large camera. I'll take the large DSLR with my lenses when I am going to be shooting seriously, but if I'm heading somewhere that I don't want to be so conspicuous with my sizable camera bag (even my "holster" one is still pretty big), I can grab my little Sony P&S which can fit in a pocket. It all depends on what your intent is. If you want very nice photos for printing at larger sizes, then you take the good gear and the good lenses. If you simply want some happy snaps for memories, take the little camera because image quality isn't that paramount.

My small camera was around $100, which is less than I paid for nearly each of my SLR lenses (I have one lens that was about $75, among the ones that I use regularly). My tripod legs cost more than the Sony P&S!

pretty much correct....I will only bring my dSLR to places where I know I want that additional flexability.

this is where a wife/gf comes in handy... that giant thing they call a purse, can hold something like a G9 no problem :)

but yeah, basically i used to have a small point and shoot to carry everywhere, and the dslr for when I wanted to really go out and take photos. Unfortunately, my p&s broke, so I'm left w/ not taking a camera everywhere with me

Get a good case, and get used to it ;)

My Lowepro bag is no larger than many women's handbags, and it's more than tough enough to protect the camera from any accidental knocks, so I just sling it on and get out there. I even skiied with it this year :D

Just get a camera bag , and put your camera in it . You should get used to the bag, bag can be quite convenient also . Sometimes non compact digital camera is needed for the photography .
